Benzoic acid

I. Product composition
Formula: C6H5COOH Molecular weight: 122.12 (according to the relative molecular mass of 1989)
As for industrial grade benzoic acid products, the benzoic acid content is more than or equal to 98.5%, benzyl alcohol content is less than or equal to 0.5%, benzaldehyde content is less than or equal to 0.5%, while phthalic anhydride and other component content is less than or equal to 0.5%.

II. Product production process
The catalytic oxidation method of toluene liquid phase air: Petroleum toluene reacts with air under the action of catalyst in the oxidation tower at certain temperature and pressure after being preheated, reaction liquid removes by-products by refining, which can produce benzoic acid products.

IV. Product characteristics

Benzoic acid is found in a variety of resins like benzoin gum, also known as carboxybenzene. Benzoic acid at room temperature is a clear crystal melting at 121.7 ℃. It is difficult to dissolve in water, but soluble in hot water, ethyl alcohol, and ether. It can be sublimated, and distilled with the steam.

Acidity of benzoic acid is stronger than phenol and saturated monocarboxylic acid, but slighter weaker than formic acid. Benzoic acid has the general nature of carboxylic acid, and reacts with base forming salt, as well as acid halide, acid amide, acid anhydride, lipid and other carboxylate derivatives. Benzoic acid reacts with phosphorus pentachloride or thionyl chloride forming benzoyl chloride.

V. Protection measures

Benzoic acid has very strong acidity and corrosion, and forms a little dust during use, so we shall pay attention to wearing protective gloves and protective masks during use. Benzoic acid is combustible, with kindling forbidden in production area. Water or carbon dioxide fire extinguishers can be used to put out fire.

VI. Storage and transportation conditions

Industrial grade benzoic acid shall be stored in a cool and dry place, away from heat or exposure, and the mixed storage with harmful substances shall not be allowed. In the process of transportation, industrial grade benzoic acid shall be covered to prevent rain and moisture, and mixed transport with hazardous materials shall not be allowed.

VII. Product application function

Industrial grade benzoic acid can be used as plastic plasticizer, peroxide benzoyl chloride and other raw materials for organic synthesis. Food grade and pharmaceutical grade benzoic acid can be prepared by recrystallization refinement treatment. Industrial grade benzoic acid is still an important raw material for preparation of food additives.

Application of benzoic acid in the resin: Benzoic acid is monoacid, with low molecular weight and a benzene ring structure. After the introduction of alcohol acid resin structure, the film dries quickly, with high gloss, high hardness, good water resistance, salt fog resistance, gloss retention, and weather resistance. Combined use with amino resin can play the role of fast drying, and can reduce the dosage of amino resin also. Benzoic acid is monoacid, with simple formula treatment, which can replace fatty acid of certain equivalent ratio according to the general principle.
